EVALUATION OF THE THREE CLASSES (INCLUDING PHOTOS BY DAVID DOUST AND CAITLIN PLIMMER)

Evaluation of all three classes. Volpone – Personally, I did not enjoy reading the play Volpone at all, it wasn’t a play that I could read and think ‘I could imagine playing this character’. I found it pretty difficult to understand and even harder to work with. However, despite my dislike towards the text, the lessons we did with Evi were helpful, we explored things that you wouldn’t normally with classical texts like animalistic motion capture movement and different voices for different characters etc. Some lessons that Evi set us I personally found a bit challenging but that’s purely based on my own confidence and my own personal issues. I felt that I did try with things that usually would make me uncomfortable and although I LOVE comedy trying to BE funny in such an unfunny text is so difficult for me. It was like trying to get blood out of a stone for me, it wasn’t happening and that knocked my confidence slightly because I couldn’t seem to make this text funny. I am glad...

FULL LOG BOOK ENTRIES.

CHARLOTTE HOWES LOGBOOK FROM PERFORMANCE SKILLS CLASSICAL THEATRE Volpone Tuesday 16 th January – To begin with we all sat in a circle and discussed the plot of Volpone, this was useful as it allowed us all to fully understand the play before we began to tackle scenes within it. We also discussed the themes within the play which were things like greed, temptation etc. We vaguely talked about how each character resembled animals within the play and how this could be reflected within our final performances. We then partnered up (I was with Emma) and we were given a scene per pair to look at and perform to the class with the script, this was a short activity. After we had shown it to the class we were given the task to make the scene improvised, without scripts and to use contemporary language to help us understand what was properly going on within the scene. This was a lot of fun to perform and it was really interesting to see how other groups interpreted their scenes too.   T...

Reflective writing on the progress and development within acting behind a camera.

When I discovered that we were going to be taking camera classes I was excited as this was something that wasn’t available for us to use last year. We have focused on solo camera work, and duo camera work as well as continuity within film and other techniques to help us prepare for camera work and possible auditions that could take place in the future. Duologue work behind the camera is interesting as it gives you a lot of different options and directions to work with. When me and Lauren were rehearsing together we discovered a variety of ways we could take our scene scaling from sinister to loving. We used this rehearsal process to create a heavy tension within our scene that was clearly noticeable within our scenes shown through our eye contact and posture. Something else that extremely helps and enables a good scene behind camera is actioning your script, in addition to that, learning your partners actions too enables your reaction to be true and a lot more clear. Actioning your...

REFLECTIVE WRITING ON MY SINGING PROGRESS AND ASSESSMENT.

At the beginning of the semester when I discovered we were going to have singing lessons I was extremely nervous and worried about what was going to happen as I have never properly participated within singing activities nor had I performed in front of an audience on my own before. To learn that the assessment would be based on a solo performance, my nerves and dread grew greater and greater. After my first lesson with Vic,, our teacher, I felt a lot more comfortable and confident with singing as a group and opening up my vocal chords. We took part in an activity where we placed socks under our armpits and sung whilst opening our vocals allowing vibrations to occur through our backs., We then partnered up and allowed our partner to hear the vibration from our vocals, I said the words ‘ahhh’ as my partner could feel the vibrations coming through on my back, we then swapped and I felt my partners vibrations through her back, if she was not quite opening her back enough I helped her adjust...
